MY ART SETUP: DRAWING & FILMING CONTENT
As a small content creator, my setup is nothing special. Having rearranged my workspace at least 10 times this year alone, one thing has remained constant. My mini tripod, my phone and a table. The three main things that are absolutely necessary to my drawing & filming process.
Hi! I'm MG, and welcome back to another post here on MG's Art Corner.
I know it's been a while since I've posted here, I apologize for that. I've been busy filming and posting content on my YT channel, to get my art out there.
Pitiful Paintbrush (search me up on YT).
Now, let's get onto the main topic for today: My art setup.
I'll be giving you insight on how I draw and film. While it's a simple setup, it's one that got me this far.
THE WORKSPACE
Here is a picture of how my desk currently looks as I type up this post. It's messy right? but I'm not lying when I say it was worse. Just two days ago I rearranged my room up (I share it with my sisters). I prioritized making things easier for them, forgetting about my own space. As you can see, the table is overcrowded. I actually put more of my art stuff with my clothes now.
THE TRIPOD
In this next photo you can see two tripod stands. The one farthest to the right is the first tripod I got. My sister had bought it because she'd always seen me filming with one hand and drawing with the other. It helped me drastically, and I was able to create better videos of my process. Then one of the legs got detached, becoming lose and hard to film because of the weight of my phone. So when I got spending money I bough a new one that was compatible with the phone I got on my birthday.
It's the one I am currently using - The S03 Selfie Stick Integrated Tripod. It's made in China, and now matter what you guys say, things made from China are my favorite. Affordable and handy.
Btw, the table you see in the photo is going to be a new spot where I draw as my desk is full. I tested out the space when filming an upcoming video (Testing Out Touch Alcohol Markers), and a change of space every once in a while is nice.
THE PHONE
I can't take a photo of my phone but it is the HONOR X5 Plus phone. I got it last year, on April (my birthday). As a matter of fact, my phone's one year anniversary is coming up.
While I do use it to film, I edit all my videos on my laptop (I'll make a post on that later).
I am however trying to save up for an iPhone as my sister let me film on her phone once and the picture quality came out better. I'm at least aiming for an iPhone 12 since it's the most affordable one here. Fingers crossed I get it by the end of this year or the next.
Again, these are the 3 main things for drawing & filming, and my art setup. Of course at the end of the day the main things you must have that don't need to be explained in detail is your art supplies. How can you film drawing without drawing? Exactly!
Also here are a few tips or pointers to keep in mind when filming:
- Check your view in the camera. Make sure you aren't capturing anything you don't want to. I sometimes make my camera film in selfie mode to see how everything looks, or I film with the back camera with my phone screen facing me so I can see how everything looks.
- Make sure your lighting is coming from the opposite side of the hand you use to draw. It prevents dark shadows from your arm causing your process to be unclear. Noticed that when editing a recent YT short.
- Your supplies and drawing must be seen clearly. We don't enjoy watching blurry content right?
- You can always voiceover later instead of speaking in real time. It makes you more relaxed because you don't have to worry about your breathing or background noise.
- Editing your videos color and making adjustments is possible. If you aren't happy with your footage quality then just edit it. You can then post unedited photos of your art on your IG or Pinterest page later.
- Always make sure you're confident with your video before posting it. No matter what people say as long as you gave it your best and are satisfied, nothing else matters.
See you in the next one, bye ^_^
