ANIME ART & WHAT IT MEANS TO ME

If you're reading this post, you're probably 99.5% an anime fan. Of course while most of us and enjoy watching the different series filled with adventure, comedy, slices-of-life and more, there are some of us that draw the characters of such shows.

Hi! My name is MG. I am an anime fan and a small self-taught artist (aside from the YT timelapses, tutorials and the occasional Tiktoks or shorts). Having a passion from art at a young age I joined a platform called 'Episode' which led to a few turns until I stumbled across anime.

I believe the first anime I watched was Arrietty, but at the time I didn't know what an anime was (unsure what age I was, maybe around 8-11). The first time I watched an anime knowingly was when I watched "Your Name", an anime movie.

I'll make a separate post about how I came to find and love anime.

The point is once I started I got hooked, leading me to watch many anime movies like: The Garden of Words, Mary and the Witch's Flower (there's a lot, again it will be covered in another post) and series like: Haikyuu!!, Psycho Pass, The Promised Neverland and countless others.

It wasn't until during covid when I started to create anime art. I started with Instagram and Tiktok, posting content between the two.

WHAT IT ALL MEANS TO ME?

It was during some of my toughest times that anime pulled me through. When I was sad, depressed, or angry, I'd watch an anime or draw fanart and I'd feel better. Although now that's a bit different, I prefer not to watch in a negative mood because it ruins the experience.

Right now, there are so many anime artists all over social media and around the world. Some have gone on to start their own business, animes or webtoons. It's very inspiring and motivating.

Fanart plays a big part in my life. It helps me recall anime when I draw characters, and makes me feel happy when I paint/create them. Right now most of my enjoyment, relaxation and life revolve around creating anime art in hope I can one day start my own business or do something impactful with everything I've learnt along the way.

From the mangas, to the animes and figurines- everything is art. When we create fanart, it's like connecting a part of our soul to these pieces of art & media and it feels frickin' good. It's like I've found my own "one piece" if that makes sense.

If you're a fellow anime artist, or just an artist that loves anime or even an anime lover, introduce yourself in the comments and talk about your art (anything creative involving anime) and what it means to you.

Let's connect ^_^
